The North embraces a community of creatures living together and sharing its resources.

Frank Asch’s spare, lyrical poem and Ted Levin’s poignant photographs celebrate the land and Bear, Puffin, Moose, and all the other inhabitants of the North know its songs/5(3). Informed by a wealth of historical, social, political and cultural background material about the Midwest, Song of the North Country is a major work about the roots of Dylan's genius.

It also casts a fresh and telling light on many Dylan songs, which often feel newly-minted in a series of illuminating readings/5(4). The Song of the North is the new name for the book, I actually read the original book The Boar Stone, I had to buy this on the UK site which cost me 3 times more than the first two books, funny thing is one of the sellers on the UK site was in the United States but I still had to pay the "pounds" price, tried to get a hold of the seller but they wouldn't reply back.4/5.

This deserves a star on handling of a subject that required a skillful combination of the story and the art; I am afraid that outside of schools, music lovers and public libraries, the market is sharply limited.

The first half of the book is the story of a boy growing into manhood, of an individual, and she has handled his weaknesses and his strengths with an objective viewpoint.

The book's central claim of Dylan's Midwest influence is practically disposable. What the reader finds is basically an exposition of the author's conservative political agenda. Bumbling and confused, Pichaske wanders about, supporting himself by appropriating other works here and there and wherever the North wind carries him.3/5.
